MACHINE MIND...
MACHINE & MANKIND.”
The You! – that’s You! – the one “making the search” – you have a ‘Mind’ – termed ‘Organic Mind’ (OM).
‘Artificial Intelligence’ – that’s not You! – It’s a ‘Machine’ – however sophisticated it becomes – its ‘Mind’ – is ‘Machine’ – it has ‘Machine Mind’ – or ‘Synthetic Mind.’
Both are ‘created’ – but both are not the same.
What is this difference – between You! / your ‘Organic Mind’ (Human) – and the ‘Machine Mind?’ –
On the face of it, it appears obvious – so obvious – that we can pass through Life – doing the ordinary things we do in Life – without thinking about it. Scientists and Mathematicians – call this “obviousness” - “self-evident.” However, what is often not realised – is that this thing we term “self-evident” - when we come to carefully think about it – is not so “self-evident” after all.
Ask any Professor of Mathematics – who has had a ‘genius’ as a Student - that Student often asks awkward questions – things the Professor assumed were “self-evident” - but which his ‘genius Student’ knows – is not. That Student’s ‘Mind,’ with its devastating inquisitiveness - will often puncture the bubble of the “self-evident” – and he smiles, as he torments his complacent Professor Teacher.
In our relationship with ‘Machines,’ ‘Artificial Intelligence’ – let us therefore, not assume that the differences between our ‘Minds’ and ‘Intelligence’ are “self-evident.”
Our ‘Minds’ are not the same although they may seem to be similar.
PROPOSITIONAL HYPOTHESIS (1)
There exists at least two ‘states of Mind’ and therefore two ‘states of Intelligence.’
‘Organic Mind’ - being the Mind of Humans - ‘processing’ ‘Consciousness’ through the ‘medium’ of the brain and / or other organs of the ‘Human Body Suit.’ From this it follows, that there is a distinct - ‘Human Intelligence.’
There exists ‘Synthetic Mind' - being the Mind of Artificial Intelligence Machines (AIM) - ‘processing' ‘Consciousness' through the 'medium' of the Computer & Information Technology and / or other inanimate, mechanical, digital devices. From this it follows, that there is a distinct - ‘Artificial Intelligence.’
DEFINITIONS
1. ‘Consciousness’ - ‘Consciousness’ is defined as the “universal resonant” - ‘frequency’ / ‘faculty’ / ‘function.’
2(a) ‘Necessary Elements’ - these are the ‘elements needed to support any given ‘mathematical proof.’
2(b) ‘Unnecessary Elements’ - these are all other ‘elements’ - being those ‘elements’ - not necessary for any given ‘mathematical proof.’

Is there a way, in which we can examine the ‘Mind’ of the ‘Machine’ and the “Mind of Mankind?” – an easy way – not complex – “convoluted” or “contentious.” Is there an ”objective way?” – that “Way Of Science?” - a “Science Of Consciousness & The Mind?”
“The Science Of Abstract Consciousness” by Oladipo Adegboyega Adelaja - provides such a way. In his Collected Works – there is a work - “Elements & Terms Of Mind” – where he provides a simple diagrammatic explanation, revealing the differences between the ‘Organic Mind’ (Humans) and ‘Synthetic Mind’ (‘Machines.’)
He states, that the ‘Minds’ of both are different and provides the following geometrical explanation, as an exposition of this difference.
Axiom 1: Given ‘elements’ A-Z - there exists a mixture of such ‘elements - termed ‘necessary' and ‘unnecessary elements.’
Axiom 2(a): Given two lines A-C - let ‘the first line’ A-C - represent the 'Organic Mind.’
Axiom 2(b): Let the ‘second line’ represent ‘Synthetic Mind.’
These lines are termed (a) the ‘Organic Mind Line’ (b) The ‘Synthetic Mind Line.’
PROPOSITIONAL HYPOTHESIS (2.1)
The ‘Organic Mind Line’ A-C can be extended in all situations (any element order) - from C-Z (C-Z elements inclusive.)
PROPOSITIONAL HYPOTHESIS (2.2)
The ‘Synthetic Mind Line’ can only be extended beyond C, where D is a ‘necessary element.’
DEMONSTRATION
1. Let there be a line – A to E.
2. Let there be a set of elements A to D, whereby each letter of the alphabet, represents a necessary step, in a ‘mathematical proof.’
Let us postulate (Axiom above) that the concept ‘Mind’ is the portion of the Line A-C.
Let us also state that both the ‘Human Mind’ and the ‘Synthetic Mind’ - being ‘Mind’ - are contained within this portion of line - A to C (Propositional Hypothesis 2.)
Since both the ‘Organic Mind’ (Human) and the ‘Synthetic Mind’ (‘AI Machine Mind’) are contained within the line A to C in both instances, to arrive at C from A, one has to pass through point B.
If that were the end of the matter, one could say that both the ‘Organic Mind’ (‘Human Mind’) and the ‘Synthetic Mind’ (‘Machine Mind’) are the same. Why do we say this? - Because it is necessary in moving from point A to C - to pass through point B in both ‘Minds’ (Mind Lines.)
“THE PRINCIPLE
OF THE
NECESSARY”
In both instances of the ‘Organic Mind’ and the ‘Synthetic Mind’ – it is ‘necessary’ to pass through point B. However, in viewing the diagrams above, with respect to Propositional Hypothesis 1 and 2, it is clear that the difference between the ‘Organic Mind’ and the ‘Synthetic Mind,’ can be observed - by using this concept of the ‘necessary.’ We can therefore refer to it as – “The Principle Of The Necessary.”
In Mathematics and Science in general, the term ‘necessary’ is fundamental to all “proof” – indeed if something is ‘not necessary’ – then by definition in both these sciences, it is “extraneous” to any proof.
“THE
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
MIND”
‘Artificial Intelligence’ is ‘Synthetic Mind’ and is founded upon basic formal Principles of Mathematics and Physics, Principles of Computational Science and Information Technology. At the heart of this ‘computational process’ - is the ‘algorithm.’
Taking our line A-E and “The Principle Of The Necessary” - we can make further distinctions and observations between ‘Organic’ (‘Human’) and ‘Machine’ (AI Mind.)
Take the line A-C (the necessary line.)
It follows that, any line having the same propositional statements, i.e. which contains the same elements of proof and an ‘unnecessary element’ - will be longer than the line A-C. For example, if there is one ‘unnecessary element’ (D) - that line will be the line A-D.
From the above, we can therefore state, that the line A-C expresses “The Principle Of The Necessary” and the line A-D expresses in addition, ‘unnecessary elements.’ We can term such line extension, an ‘unnecessary element line.’
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE -
MACHINE MIND
If one accepts the proposition that the ‘Artificial Intelligence Mind’ is governed by the “Principle Of The Necessary” - then the ‘Artificial Intelligence Synthetic Machine Mind’ – cannot consider the point D - as D is an ‘unnecessary element.’ Therefore, the line A-C - cannot be extened to D.
ORGANIC -
HUMAN MIND
Let us take the ‘Organic Human Mind’ - can the ‘Human Mind’ consider the point D, in accordance with the Axioms and Propositional Hypothesis 1 and 2.
From the above demonstration, we can see that there is nothing preventing the ‘Human Mind’ from considering the point D – it is not subject to the “Principle Of The Necessary.” Therefore the line A-C can be extended to D.
We can intuitively ask why shouldn’t the ‘Human Mind’ extend the range of its ‘ideas,’ ‘thoughts’ and ‘behaviour’ – to include the point D? It is not subjected to thinking in terms of ‘mathematical proof’ - although the Human Mind can be ‘logical,’ ‘rational’ and ‘reasonable.’ We can use these terms / elements, to define the ‘Human Psychology of Mind.’
Further, we can see that the line A to C is similar to the line A to D - both are ‘straight lines.’
Although it is not relevant here, in this elementary exposition – the nature of the line to include a ‘curve’ - will become relevant in future ‘Hypotheses’ and ‘Demonstrations.’ In relation to the above however - in the case of ‘Organic Human Mind’ - we can therefore ask - why shouldn’t the ‘Human Mind,’ extend the range of its ‘unnecessary elements’ - representing its ‘ideas,’ ‘thoughts’ and ‘behaviour’ - not only to point D - but to an infinite point X – being an infinite extension of the line? (This extension to an infinite set of elements, is expressed by the 1st Axiom - being that set of elements A-Z.)
The ‘Organic Mind’ - does this, being the inclusion of ‘unnecessary elements’ - as part of its “normal thinking process.”
Given the nature of ‘Human Society,’ ‘Individual Consciousness’ and ‘The Mind,’ of Humans in society (that being the environment where Humans are “socialised”) - one could argue that the ‘Human Mind’ would automatically do so.
The result is that - given any ‘problem’ - the ‘Human Mind’ ‘ought’ to extend its potential range of options - in terms of its ‘ideas,’ ‘thoughts’ and ‘behaviour’ - ‘thinking’ - infinitely!
The ‘Organic Human Mind’ ought to do so - and would only not do so, if it were “socialised” - “conditioned ” - “Mind controlled” - not to do so.
Further - as it is possible to extend the line A-D and indeed any line, infinitely - the ‘Organic Human Mind’ - has no difficulty in such an extension.
Such is the beauty and the wonder of ‘Organic Human Mind’ – and the distinct nature of the ‘Human Mind.’
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE -
LINE EXTENSION
(MACHINE LEARNING PROGRAMS)
Given that ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ by necessity, as a result of the constraints of the laws of Mathematics, Physics, Computational and Information Sciences - is subject to the ‘necessary principle,’ is it possible to extend through some form of programming - its ability to consider the ‘non- necessary?’
In other words, can an ‘Artificial Intelligence Machine Mind’ - be programmed to consider an element D?
Let us, assume that it can (these and other ‘problems’ - are considered in later Demonstrations / Events - regarding the ‘Sentient’ nature of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ - it’s ‘Will’ - and ‘Intention.’)
It could only do so, with specific programming. In the absence of such specific programming - the element D would remain a blindspot, in much the same way that the Human Eye has its blindspot.
POINT E –
AS THE ‘TERM’ / ‘ELEMENT’ -
- ‘EMPATHY’
Let us take our line A to D and extend it to a point - A to E - let us call this point E the ‘Term’ / ‘Element’ – ‘Empathy’ (Terms and Elements in accordance with The Science Of Abstract Consciousness.) We can see that the ‘Synthetic Mind’ – ‘Artificial Intelligence Mind’ – cannot, because of the “Principle Of The Necessary” – consider ‘Empathy’ (and in accordance with the Axioms and Propositions 1 and 2.)
As previously stated, the quality of ‘Empathy,’ may possibly be programmable - or be a faculty which may be acquired through Machine Learning - specific types of interaction with Humans, or other related ‘Artificial Intelligence Programs’ / ‘Mechanisms’ - to improve its operation within ‘Human Society.’ Such developed systems are sometimes referred to as ‘Artificial General Intelligence.’
However ‘Empathy,’ within Human Psychology - is a quality of ‘Sentience!’ – and until Scientists can establish ‘Sentience’ of any sort in ‘Artificial Intelligence Machines’ - we cannot assume that an ‘Artificial Intelligence Machine’ - can empathise with anything!!! It may well go through the motions - in its ‘computations’ – but ‘Empathy’ is a quality – whose “Existence” – “Depth” – can only be measured by the results of an ‘Human activity.’ The “success” or “failure” being a “subjective quality” of Human Psychology. Even if an ‘Artificial Intelligence Machine,’ were sentient - would it be able to understand and empathise with Human Psychology?
Given the line A to E –
The Human can quite easily consider the point E – ‘Empathy,’ the ordinary ‘Human Mind,’ except in the pathological cases of the ‘Human Mind’ - such as the “sociopath” or “psychopath.”
Unless the ‘Human Mind’ is trained,” “socialised,” “restrained” or otherwise “Mind Controlled” – it ‘ought to be able to’ extend to Point E and consider ‘Empathy.’ Whilst ‘Empathy’ may not necessarily be a biological necessity - it is a powerful factor in the maintenance of Human Communities, Societies and Social Order.
Given the above, it can therefore be stated, that the ‘Organic’ / ‘Human Mind’ is distinctly different from the ‘Synthetic’ / ‘Artificial Intelligence Mind.’
Does that mean ‘Machines’ cannot be sentient?
That is not what is being determined here – and this as with other subjects relating to ‘Consciousness,’ ‘Sentience’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence Machines’ - Systems and Networks – are dealt with in a separate chapter (Oladipo Adegboyega Adelaja, SOTI Collected Works - “Excerpts from Elements & Terms of Mind.”)

You! –yes You! - are ‘Organic Mind’ – You are not just ‘sentient’ - but you have the qualities of ‘Organic Mind.’ You are social beings and you live in communities of fellow Human Beings. Do not forget the element E - the “Ecstatic” - the “Euphoric” - the “Empathic” - as higher orders of your ‘Individual Consciousness,’ which exhibit qualities of ‘Transcendence’ - that ‘Transcendent Power,’ which enables you to “traverse the Cosmoi - as a Colossus - among Beings”....
But for now - do not forget that most significant and important of all E's - that – “EMPATHY” – for your fellow Human beings!
